This and That/Pain and Joy

I am obviously way behind in posting. I have had several things happen to me lately. Earlier in October I experienced chest pains at work. Went to the doctor and had an EKG. Turns out my heart was fine. The doctor thought my pains were caused by stress. Sort of like a panic attack or something. I was ordered to take two days off work since my vacation was still 8 weeks or so at the time.

Then later on Oct 20th I got my flu shot.
Boy, was that bad news for me.
I did not get sick. So far flu shots have appeared to keep me from getting the flu.
However, I started experiencing swelling, a growing red blotch at the location of the shot. And a lot of heat radiating from the shot. I showed it to a nurse at work. Not the one who gave it to me, but another one. I was told to give it about 72 hours.

Then the following week right before Halloween, the pain hit.
It kept getting worse and worse to the point I could not move my left arm.
I was getting into hysterics from the pain. Sort of delusional and not able to feed myself due the pain going through the roof. On a scale of 1 to 10....it was way above 10.
Went to the doctor the following Monday and was told the shot was given to me in the wrong place resulting in my getting subdeltoid bursitis.
I told the doctor I did not have enough sick leave to take a week off.
So he gave me a note for light duty for two weeks.
No heavy lifting, pushing or pulling.
Made it difficult to do my job!
Went to work the next day and it was apparent I could not do my job due to the pain.
I could not move my arm at all. To do so caused extreme pain.
So I was given paid time off for the rest of the day plus two more days as well as being paid for Monday as well. None of it was subtracted from my sick leave.
The administrator told me it was the least they can do since the shot was given to me on the job.
They were aware I could have sued for pain and suffering, but since I am not that kind of person and a forgiving person, the compensation was a good trade off.
With the cold weather I continue to have pain, but no where near as bad as it was.
It still astounds me how bad it was. I would never wish that on anyone.
FYI--the correct place to give a shot is fingers down from the shoulder joint and towards the back of the arm.
Never on the front side of the arm.
Now that I know that I will never get a bad shot again!

I am going to link up with Tam at The Gypsy's Corner
for my Three or More pictures of new granddaughter.
Just have to show her off.

Now for the GOOD News.
Our new granddaughter arrived on November 13, 2010.
She was born on my grandmother's birthday.
My grandmother would have been 102 this year.
Kaylyn was 8 lbs even and 20 1/2 inches long.
And of course I think she is a doll!
Interestingly, my grandmother was born around noon Pacific Time.
And Kaylyn was born at 2:52 Eastern Time.
So that means they were both born close to the same time basically.
Kaylyn not long after she was born.
Kaylyn with her loving Daddy, my son!
Big sister Shaylee adores her new baby sister!
It is love at first sight for Momma and baby!
Awwww! The dog watches over her too.
My precious Kaylyn!
I can't wait to hold and cuddle and kiss her cheeks.
We will be visiting them soon!!
Actually I will be with all my kiddies for my birthday!
How cool is that?!?

Hi Linnea,
So glad to hear from you hon.
Oh, Katelyn is just beautiful and I know you can't wait to get your hands on her!! Such sweet pics, they are all precious, even the doggie loving looking over her too!

So sorry you had such a bought with that flu shot, my goodness, they need to teach that nurse where to give a shot for heavens sake. So glad you are better....who would think giving a shot in the wrong place could do so much damage.
When I was just 18 I got a flu shot at work, and that night we went out shopping and all of a sudden I just started feeling awful, aching all over and flu like symptoms, so we had to go right home and I just felt awful all night think I ran a fever too, but felt better the next day, but have never gotten a flu shot again. Would rather take my chances!! lol
That is so great you are gonna be with all your children and grandchildren for your birthday. I am so happy for you!!
Nothing like having all the birdies back in the nest even if it is just for a few days or even hours. What a blessing. and Happy Birthday whenever your special day is!!

Hope you have a fun trip and a fabulous time with your family and especially with that new grandbaby and the lil grandaughter too.

Thanks for your Congrats on my son and his sweetie. Yes, we are very excited cause they are really good together, and she is really a sweetie.

Hope your arm is all back to normal by now...that was nice they gave you paid time off, it really was the least they could do since you got the shot there!! Yea, I have never seen anyone give a shot in the front of the arm!! Wierd!!

When my sister was going thru chemo a few years back she had to have some sort of shot daily, and even tho she is a nurse, she couldn't give it to herself in the arm, and would have to drive an 45 mins to an hour everyday to get it, and she said you are gonna give it to me, and I said you must be kidding!! and she said No, you can do it, and I am like oh No, I don't think you want me to do it........and she said it's easy, it just goes in he substentaneous tissue. So she had me practice on an orange, and lo and behold I gave her 3 different shots, I was amazed at myself.....I am rather squeamish about some things but God is good is all I can say!! lol

Well......better go before I write a novel here....so glad for all your exciting and good news hon.
Blessings, Nellie
