An Outside Metamorphis Monday!

Our lovely Susan at Between Naps on the Porch
is our wonderful hostess for this fun day
that many of us love to post about.
Thank you Susan for being a gracious hostess for us.
I have an outdoor project I have mentioned before in my blog
and have done a tutorial on for a Three or More post.
But this project has become a mess
and needs to be resurrected again.
So here goes.......
My Petunia Tower.
There is a picture in my side bar of how it looked last summer.
The old petunias died off and the weeds sprouted
from the winter rains.
A big messy mess.
Right?
Now you can see I have pulled the old petunias
out of the pots.
And I pulled out the weeds around my pots,
including some of the neighbors weeds.
Otherwise the pots would still be kind of buried from the
neighbor's weeds.
Here is another view looking out at the green belt
area in our mobile home park.
We are fortunate we have that green belt to look at.
You can't see it here,
but from this angle we also have a view of the hills in the distance.
It is especially pretty with the morning sun shining
on the hills.
I saw these bricks/stones being used as a plant
surround at work.
I really liked the look of it and wanted to do that around my tower.
So last weekend we got some stones.
When I got home from work on Thursday,
I scraped the bark away from the tower and tried to make it
sort of level.
Then I started placing the stones around the tower.
The view people walking along the green belt would see.

Now the stones are all the way around.
And we added a stepping stone for the tower to sit on.
It was not easy to get the heavy tower on there.
Hubby helped with that part.
We tilted the tower some and worked the stone under there.
But the stone was too close to one edge.
We used one of hubby's belts around the stone,
and hubby pulled on the belt while I held the tower steady.
Worked like a charm!!
So there is a hint for you if you try to do something similiar.
The ground sort of slopes here and the tower is not
perfectly straight.
I may try to straighten it more.
But then on Friday it started raining.
Rained on Saturday.
Rained on Sunday.
Needless to say, I have not been back out there.
My plan is to add dirt in the open area between the stones
and the tower and plant seeds there.
I will be planting petunia seeds in the pots.
It will look very different this year compared to last year.
I will post more when I have done more on this
current project.
In the meantime,
when it rains

we

get

these!

ANTS!!!!

The rain chases them into the house.
Yucko!!
Happy Monday everyone!

I can't wait to see it when it's done. I'll bet it is going to be really beautiful!

And I know of ants! We fight a losing battle with them down here in Florida. They currently are inhabiting my bathroom and venturing into the bedroom.

Beauty is hard work, for plants especially! I did not know you planted seeds in the tower, I thought you transplanted small petunias, how long will it take from seeds to your sidebar pic?

the stones look great around the pots! blah on the ants. i despise ants. we had a problem with them here when we first moved in thanks to drafty windows and doors. it took me about 2 years of caulking every crack and hole i could find in the entire house before i got a good handle on those buggers!

You did a great job on your project! I really like how it turned out.
I feel for 'ya on the ants. We moved into our current house last year and I had no idea of the ant problem. When it rains, they come in! They're just sugar ants, but they're still yucky to me. Good luck with your little friends! I hope they don't bite.

Good afternoon Linnea, Your blog looks so pretty and spring. What a great project you have going on. It's going to be beautiful when it's done. What do you do to get rid of the ants?

ants...they weren't the biting type I hope, LOL !

I don't know how the weeds manage to grow all through the winter here in South West British Columbia but they do. Through cold, rain, snow they grow, grow, grow.
You have a great idea there. It can be adapted in so many ways.

Wow, that's a great idea! I love how it looks and glad you shared it today!

A petunia tower! I can't wait to see it. It probably wouldn't work here. Too hot. I gotta move somewhere that's fun to grow something except cactus. :(
