Wordless Wednesday-Mardi Gras/Ash Wednesday

Thank you to Dixie over at French Lique, Texas for hosting this theme for us today.
Choice of two themes. Mardis Gras or Ash Wednesday.
I have both.

AND THIS IS A NEW CEREMONY TO ME....I LOVE TO LEARN SO I AM ASSUMING THIS IS ASH WEDNESDAY...MY BEAUTICIAN IS CATHOLIC AND WE HAVE WONDERFUL SPIRITUAL CONVERSATIONS AND WE ARE BOTH BLESSED BY EACH OTHERS FAITH

HAPPY WEDNESDAY LINNEA!

I always enjoy dropping in on you, as you make me feel "right at home"!

Joey had Monday and Tuesday off from school this week, for Mardi Gras. I'm sure that they had a parade last Friday, and that he got to ride on a float. He loves collecting Mardi Gras Beads!

Excellent photos, Linnea. Nice that they have a ceremony with the palm Sunday fronds. They do that with the dayschool kids at our church. So visual for the kids. Love your background and the little owl, too. Blessings, Nancy

Those masks remind me of a denim shirt I had. It had several embroidered masks on it and was so different. One of my favorites til my hairdresser got bleach on it while highlighting my hair. Makes me wonder what I did with that shirt???

Thanks for sharing the wonderful masks. I don't think we do the Mardi Gras over here. I read on another blog about the Mardi Gras parades you have. They looked such fun.
Best Wishes

Okay...I'm going to admit to a story that makes me look like a total doofus....but it made my hubby laugh so maybe you'll get a giggle too. I'm from Utah..and I'm not exactly what you would call "knowledgable" about other religions. So yesterday I was at work...and I saw this lady with a really nasty bruise on her forehead. I kept thinking to myself "ow that had to hurt". A little while later I see a guy with a bruise too...I'm thinking...gee that is the weirdest coincidence. Then a third lady caught my eye with the same bad forehead bruise. I was thinking this was either the freakiest day ever...or someone was going around bopping people in the head. I came home and told my hubby about my weird day. And after he stopped laughing hysterically....he explained Ash Wednesday to me. OOPS...I think I need a better education lol

What fun! No one around here celebrates Mardi Gras that I know of.

I was completely unfamiliar with Ash Wednesday when growing up, so when I moved to Pittsburgh, which has a large Catholic population, I couldn't figure out why I kept seeing people with a mark on their foreheads on day. I asked a friend, and she said, "well it's Ash Wednesday of course!" I had no clue that they would actually put a smear of ashes on their foreheads and then leave it there!

You have such a great blog, Linnea! I love seeing all that you are up to. This was a wonderful post! And so perfect for Lent and just before. Your blog header is great, too. I have been thinking about making a Lenten banner this year, especially since we pretty much have a house church, as there is nowhere else to really worship in spirit and truth around here. I am re-inspired seeing the banners on your header! And the good news: we have found a Christian couple who also worship in their home. We are fellowshipping with them now, so God is moving, even in this little forgotten place!

Hi Linnea, The masks are beautiful but what I find intriguing is the burning of the palms. I have never seen a ceremony where the priest burns the palms. I know that it has to happen but our congregation is not involved - although I would like to be.

Oooo so your church had a celebration? Very neat!

Both masks are cool ... each with their own distinctive style... Which is your favorite? :)

Oh, so the crosses are burned? How interesting...why are they? I must do some research :)

Thanks for stopping by and inquiring about my mom and sister. My mom is out of the hospital which is great. Lynette has been sick all last week. I'm sure she will start visiting and posting again soon. Thanks so much for your concerns that really means a lot.

Thanks for following as well. Have a nice Sunday. We are suppose to get about 4-10 inches of snow if you believe the weather man. We will just see. The last time they said it was going to snow nothing happened.
