Three or More Tuesday/More of Our Trip

Taking pictures on a trip gives me material

for several different posts.

This trip we just had has given me that opportunity as well.

If you saw yesterday's post you will know where we were.

I did Blue things yesterday.

Today it is Three or More of something.

First up is three different Pentecost banners in red.

Red is the usual color associated with Pentecost.

For those who are not aware,

Sunday was Pentecost in the liturgical church year.

To my knowledge, Catholics, Episcopalians, and Lutherans

observe the liturgical church year celebrations.

The descending dove is the symbol for Pentecost.

Here we have a double banner.

There were actually two of these.

I assume these banners were borrowed from Lutheran churches

in the Fresno area.

On Saturday morning we closed the assembly with a

Vigil of Pentecost service since it was Saturday and not Sunday.

This was the first year to hold the convention on a Thursday, Friday and Saturday.

It used to always be a Friday, Saturday and Sunday.

But many pastors left early if they did not have a substitute in place to

preach for them on Sunday morning.

So it was changed this year.

This was the altar area for the service.

There are three or more communion sets there.

A lot more than three sets.

Several communion stations were needed for a service

of over 500 people.

The plates have the bread.

There are two chalices (cups) with each plate.

One with wine, and one with grape juice.

In large settings like this,

communion is done by intinction,

meaning to dip the bread into the wine or grape juice

before you eat it.

Three people were needed at each station.

One to hold the bread plate,

one to hold the wine chalice

All those communion sets were also probably borrowed from

churches in the Fresno area.
