Christmas is not over yet!!

I have been reading about others saying that Christmas is over and they are taking their stuff down already. But I guess if the stuff goes up right after Thanksgiving, it has been up a month or more already. Or almost a month. In actuality, Christmas is NOT over. Today is actually Day 4 of the twelve days of Christmas. After the twelve days, then it is Epiphany which is observed on January 6th. Last year January 6 fell on a Sunday and we did an Epiphany pageant at church. Right now we are waiting for the Wise Men to visit the Baby Jesus. Epiphany is when we celebrate the Wise Men's visit to see Baby Jesus. So I am not ready to say Christmas is over because it is not. Not yet. I got another Angel for Christmas! I guess this is an Angel Christmas for me. This one above arrived in the mail yesterday from my husband's brother. The same brother who gave us the blue stained glass angel I had posted for a Blue Monday once. Notice this one is blue too. I just LOVE this angel. I am keeping it out all year. I can't stand the thought of putting this pretty angel away for the year until next Christmas. This beautiful nativity scene was on display at church on Christmas Eve. It is not out anymore. I noticed that when I went to the church last night to practice the organ for today's service. Isn't it gorgeous?

The church was also decorated with poinsettas. People donate them in memory of loved ones. It is posted in the bullentin who donated them and who they are in memory of for this year. They are displayed so nicely this year. Well, actually they are every year.
Here is the tree at church which is also still up. The tree is decorated with Chrismons. Some are made out of styrofoam and beads and gold foil. The women's group made them one year. Quite a few years ago. Okay a lot of years ago. They are still holding up well. The small round ones are cross stitched and in small embroidery hoops for frames. One year when we were adding those to the collection my daughter, my mother and I all helped to make a few of those. Each of the Chrismons have a meaning. One year we did a program where each one was described and what it meant as they were put on the tree. On this first Sunday after Christmas we are doing only one service of lessons and carols. So today as the organist I have lots of hymns to play. It will keep me hopping on the organ bench for sure. I spent over two hours practicing last night. And this morning we will get over there at least one hour early so I can warm up my fingers for the service. As soon as I finish this post, I will need to sign off and start getting ready to go. I made or rather my husband made copies of each of the hymns I will be playing. That way I don't have to be flipping through books. I will just arrange the copied hymns in order and go for it. Also today everyone is supposed to bring goodies to share after church. I am bringing mine in the pretty tree shaped dish. This was another gift from a secret sister in a previous year. I do remember who this one is from. If she is there I will have to show her I am using her gift. Here it is filled with the goodies I made. Yum yum yummy! This time I used Christmas colored M&M's for the centers. These are the same goodies I made for my co-workers that I posted about for Blue Monday last week. So Happy 4th day of Christmas!!

Hi Linnea, I remember when I was a little girl my family never took down their decorations until the 7th of January. Especially the nativity scene. I always wanted to put out the 3 wise men visiting the baby Jesus! That christmas tree looks yummy right about now!
Happy New Year!
Love, Ann

Hey 'Nea! That is so cool that you play the organ at church! And I agree with Christmas not being over yet. I am taking my decorations down next week. Sometimes I have waited until the second week of January to do it.

Well, I'm sure you do a great job at the organ! Take care!

I totally agree with you that Christmas isn't over until January 6! We had a tradition growing up that the tree didn't come down before that time, and on Epiphany, we had a special candlelight dinner to celebrate the 12th day of Christmas.

Love that angel! Also, those pretzel and Kisses goodies look so darn good!

Hey Linnea, Well, I used Feedburner to set a feed thinking that would take care of things..now when you click on my blog name in your list it takes you to my feed over at Feedburner...BUT I still have no idea why my feed will NOT pull into the Blog List....arrrrgggghhh!!! I fill like a lame brain...that it's something so simple..I did go read at the Blogger help forum from the link you left for me..it seems others have had the same issue... I think I'll click on their names and go post my question on their blogs to see if or how they finally resolved the issue. I look so lonely just sitting there with no post popping up!!! :0/

Hi! I agree...too many people are taking down their Christmas decorations way too early this year! We always take the tree down but leave snowmen up, our village up until the end of January. I always want the tree down because my daughter's bday is on the 8th of January and don't want the tree up for that. The church decorations you were involved with were beautiful! Hope you did great with the organ playing. I play the piano and think Christmas hymns are the hardest in the book!!! Have a great day!

I'm with you! My tree is staying up until the 7th of January. That evening we will have a special dinner, and then everyone willhelp to take things down, and wrap them up for next year. I'm even thinking of inviting several families over to partake in the festivities...many hands make light work!
May you continue to enjoy the remaining Days of Chirstmas!

Our tree at church is covered with Chrismons, also. The first ones were made about 25 years ago; and the women of the church have ornament making get-togethers every few years to add to the tree. It really is quite beautiful. Sally

As I've mentioned before, I'm just a "learner" on the camera. But I thank you for your advices. Will do that next time I use it, lol. I'm always too fast when I shall take a picture. Never have that patience!!!

Stockaryd is in Småland, that's correct. And not that far away from where I live, 70 or 80 km's from here. How nice that your relatives came from here. The world ain't that big after all lol.

So many beautiful pictures you show today. Just loved the Christmas tree!!

Have a super New Year!

You play the organ at church?! Wow! I have a very poor sense of "notes" but I do enjoy music anyway. lol! You're right, Christmas isn't over. I can remember my mom putting out shoes for the three wise men...I think gifts were left in them...I know I keep my lights up, and usually the nativity, but all the rest, including the tree, have come down and have been packed and put up til next year.

Ahhh. Now I understand the whole January 6th thing. I always knew it was an important day and that in Europe Christmas trees stay up until then, but I did not know why. And I thought the 12 days of Christmas was before Christmas, not after. I guess you learn something new all the time! Thanks for filling me in!

Thanks for stopping by. I wish I made it over to your site more often but unfortunately, as you can see, I barely have time to update my own blog, so I'm awful at keeping up with others' blogs! I hope you are well and that you had a Merry Christmas (Day) and that you do have a Happy New Year!
