The Drive Home From Church/Blue Monday #17

Update: I decided to use this post for Blue Monday as well. I will let the beautiful blue skies (what you can see of them) and the blue pond be my blues for today. Thank you to Sally at Smiling Sally for hosting this fun day for us.

Happy Blue Monday!!
-------------------------------------------
Today was such a gorgeous day! The hillsides are green and beautiful now that we have had some rain. They are brown in the summer. But this warmish weather in the upper 60's--lower 70's is really confusing the plants around here. Last Saturday it got up to 80 at our house!! I asked hubby to take a detour on a road I have never been on before. And wow-o-wow!! Was I in for a treat for the eyes! I could not believe what I have been missing all these years. Almost no traffic except for bike riders out for a ride on the beautiful day. The yellow flowers you see blooming are the Mustard flowers. They are a bit early because of this strange warmth we are getting. The Mustard Festival activities are held in March each year.

More to ooh and aah over. Caught a pond there. Probably an irrigation pond. The vines are bare now. I have been seeing the vineyard workers pruning the vines. This is the normal time to do that. Sometimes around here there are pruning contests. I don't know if they still do them. Pruning the vines is a very skilled job. They have to know just how far to cut it and how in order to produce a good crop next fall.

These fence posts just add a nice touch to this picture. They go marching along the hillside there.

I am basically standing in almost the same place as I was for the previous picture. But had reversed my zoom to get a more wide angle view. You can see the edge of the road on the right. Those rocks there also add interest.

In the middle of the picture just before the hill rises again after the dirt area is a road. That is the road we normally drive on to get home from church.

This view is 180 degrees from the view in the previous picture. This is the direction we were going in for our detour. In the middle right at the horizon there is the north tip of the San Francisco bay. Actually, that area is called the San Pablo Bay. The San Francisco Bay is south of the Bay Bridge. It is the bay you see when you land at the either the Oakland or the San Francisco airports.

When we got home, Helmi was upset we didn't take her. She said she would have loved to see the pretty scenery on this gorgeous day. See my Craft blog to see what Helmi was up to today.

Happy Sunday!

What beautiful pictures. I would love to be there right now. It's so cold here in NC, but alas, no snow!

I love looking at the terrain, Linnea. I'm used to orange groves, but seeing vineyards is really something. Thanks for sharing!

Isn't it wonderful to come across beautiful things out in nature, just round the corner from you and you didn't even know they were there! I love things like that. Your pictures were great. Thanks for sharing!

And Helmi... well, I know about little friends. I have Lamby (there's a surprise, I know). One of these days I will have to blog about Lamby! You've inspired me again!

So beautiful...I love to detour off on the road less traveled...because this is what we miss when we stay the same course.
Looks like the area where my brother lives in Oregon.

You can be grateful that I don't post pics of our side roads. All you would see is drainage ditches filled with beer cans, and old sofas!
These pictures are beautiful and I've very glad that you took "the road less traveled"!

When someone mentions Germany, the first thing I think of are the mustard fields. Gorgeous pictures!

The minute I saw your great trip photos I knew this was California. We take a lot of road trips there and always love it.
Happy Blue Monday!

Those are beautiful pictures...and I'm so jealous of your nice temperatures...we just got snow and it warmed all the way up to 17 degrees!

The road less traveled turned out to be a treat for the eyes and spirits.

My modum was sick and my local internet company finally fixed it. Mr. Linky is up now; please come link in. Happy Blue Monday.

I love your photos...how pretty. We travel on backroads a lot and it just feels like you're really seeing the area instead of flying by at 70 MPH!

WOWIE is right! I am just admiring the "warmth" that is visible in the pictures! I have been so cold here in Pennsylvania. Thanks for the brief moment of sunshine! Very pretty scenery.

Funny you just told me about Napa Valley and then you have beautiful pics of the vineyard. I am imagining what it looks like in the spring! It's going to be in the 20's tonight in central Florida. Take care!!

Hi Linnea, I love your pictures! What a wonderful ride to take after church on Sunday!
BUT your new header with that sunrise! What a fantastic picture! I am in awe looking at it! You look at pictures like that you can't help to think how truly glorious God is!
I am so glad to be back home after being away so long. I could read what everyone posted on my blog but I couldn't answer and it just killed me! LOL

WOW what beautiful pictures. My favorite is the 5th one showing the road from your church. You are lucky living amongst such wonderful scenery. Thanks for sharing it through your blog.
Apologies about your theater guess. I realised when Lorrie said Movie Theater, that is what we call a cinema in England. A theater to us is not where we watch a film but where we watch a live play or concert. As we were watching a film I was looking for cinema!! I have changed my post because I agree now you were right too. Isn't it strange how we speak the same language but how words have so many different meanings in our countries?
Best Wishes
Lindsay

Linnea, your photos are wonderful. I didn't know mustard had flowers!!! You'll have to do a post about the mustard festival!! We have a Spinach Festival in a town nearby, but I don't believe they grow spinach--they just needed an excuse to have a festival, I'm guessing!!! :)
It was so great to see the beautiful scenery in your part of the country!!! Dana
