January 6th is Epiphany!
Last year Epiphany fell on a Sunday and we did an Epiphany pageant that day. We even used a real camel. The story is about what is happening around the time the Magi seek the newborn babe. The is written as if it was a newscast with reporters giving the update on what is happening. The script even includes commercials. I was one of the commercials. Remember this is last year's pageant. I just had to show you a few pictures, because we had a real live camel as part of the play.

The camel arrives.
Her handler/owner comes dressed in period costume. He is used to doing that since they are asked often to be part of things like this. The camel is actually a therapy animal and they take her to nursing homes and such to bring cheer and amazement to people.
See, she is inside our church.
Space was made for her in this area. She actually fit through that door there, barely. The cloth on the floor was to wipe up pee spills. There were a few of those I guess, since she stayed inside for the entire show.

Here she is sitting.
The camel was up and down throughout the time she was there. Camels drool when they are happy.
She was really enjoying the action and the music so she was drooling......... a lot.
The handler/owner had a rag he used to wipe her mouth...... often.

I was in the commercial for Dorcas Handweavers. I carried with me two pieces actually woven by my godmother on her loom. I had four girls with me during the commercial who pretended to model pieces made by the handweavers.
Very cute!

After the pageant was over, we were allowed to get pictures with the camel. In this first one the camel was nuzzling my hubby there. He was one of the Magi in this play.
Hubby was I mean, not the camel.

Camel is behaving herself in this one! It was a beautiful day on January 6th last year.

Here she decided to get a snack off of the tree there before leaving.
Everyone thought it was so fun to have a real camel as part of the program last year.

NOW FOR THIS YEAR

Here is hubby dressed as Joseph.
If you take a close look it is the same costume I wore last year. I did not realize that until I was uploading the pictures. Also the headscarf he is wearing is the same scarf I was wearing over my shoulder last year. We have quite a collection of costumes at our church that get used as needed for various things and events. I only have pictures of hubby and me since I don't like to use pictures of other people unless I have asked. I didn't ask the camel guy, but he poses for pictures all the time with the camel at various things. So it is expected he would be in pictures.

Here we are together.
Hubby got comments that his longish hair fit the role. I guess one of these days we will actually get it cut. Our glasses look a little out of place but we need them to see. Me to see, period.
And hubby needed his to read the script. We were not expected to memorize them. The play was designed to be done with scripts and with only one rehearsal. It came off very well.

And now the moment you have been waiting for............
a bathroom diva picture!
Yay!
This was taken in the bathroom at church, when no one else was in there.
(of course!)
Look, I am not even looking at the camera.
Do you know how hard it is to do that?
Not look at the camera I mean.
I needed a crow bar to pull my eyes over to the left.

Now doesn't the halo say I am an angel?
Both Mary and Joseph thought I was an alien and I had to convince them that I am an angel.
I think I finally convinced them though.
Hey, that is the way the play is written.
It was actually a fun and humorous play. The best kind. Drew lots of laughs from the congregation. We so enjoyed being part of it.

So there you have it.
My parents used to gather with some friends on Epiphany and exchanged gifts that night after a special dinner together.
They no longer do that.
Everyone is getting older, one couple moved out of town and another passed away.
So it is now harder to continue that tradition for them. Doing programs is a new thing to do. Incidently, my mother directed both plays and she wrote the one we did last year. The one we did this year is called "The Surprising Christmas Pageant".
It was copyrighted in 2002, but I don't know who wrote it.
Happy Epiphany!!!

That looks like so much fun!!! What a fabulous way to begin the new year.
Love your Diva photo! Thanks, Neabear for visiting my blog. I appreciate your comments and also hearing from someone in the Bay Area. I live in Concord.
I have a question about blog awards. I see you have some and I do too. What I was wondering is if you know the etiquette surrounding those? If you see one that you would like to award to someone can you just use it, or do you have to wait until someone sends it to you or should you create your own? I love that one you have that says I heart your blog on the lined paper. I have seen it on lots of blogs. Just curious if you happen to know? Thanks, Bonnie
How cool is that.... a camel going to church! I love it! You are a diva, Linnea! Love the photos!

What a great pageant! We were in Northern PA recently and passed by a man's farm who had all kinds of animals. Then we found out he has had a camel since it was 8 weeks old...and we thought why would anyone have a camel? There you go!
Jillian
This is a fun post--what a great pageant! Congrats to the bathroom Diva!
Hi Linnea,
Thank you for your comforting words over at my blog about our Kitty Baby. Boy, is it hard. She's been such a part of my life ever since I had kids....seems so strange around here w/o her. But caring friends like you have been such a balm.
Loved your Christmas pageant and your darling pics. What a great sport your DH is.
Blessings to you.
Oh this is WONDERFUL!
